Jono's Story

When I was young, I dreamed of becoming the next Steve Irwin. I studied biology at the University of Waikato, and I also worked with the Department of Conservation. During my teens, I jumped out of helicopters, surveyed rare birds and plants, and lived my dream life in conservation biology. On the outside, everything looked perfect. However, at 19 years old, during a university party surrounded by friends, music, and success, I felt an overwhelming emptiness inside.

That night, I looked up at the stars and knew there was a God. Deep down, I realized I had been running from Him. In the following weeks, God brought people into my life who shared the gospel with me. A coworker invited me to church. Meanwhile, a friend asked me questions about faith. In addition, my sister gave me a booklet that clearly explained the good news of Jesus Christ. For the first time, I understood that my sin had separated me from God. Yet, Jesus had died on the cross and risen again to bring forgiveness and eternal life.

One night, after weeks of wrestling with that truth, I got down on my knees and prayed for Jesus Christ to save me. At that moment, I wasn’t surrounded by lights or music. Instead, I felt the quiet confidence that God had forgiven me through His Son. As a result, the emptiness was gone. The next morning, I woke up knowing I was a new person—completely forgiven and at peace with God.

Since then, my life has taken a very different direction. Rather than chasing a career to “save the planet,” God has called me into ministry. Because of that, I can point others to the Creator who made the world and loves us deeply. My greatest adventures are no longer in conservation. Instead, they are seeing lives transformed by Christ.

Maybe right now, you’re like I was, successful on the outside but empty on the inside. The Bible says we are all sinners, separated from God. Nevertheless, Jesus died and rose again to save us. Romans 10:13 promises, “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Therefore, that promise is for you, too. If you are searching for peace, forgiveness, and real hope, call on Jesus Christ today. Finally, He will forgive you, save you, and give you the lasting satisfaction that nothing else in this world can.
